EXY (엑시) is a South Korean rapper and singer-songwriter under Starship Entertainment. She is the leader of the girl group WJSN, a member of its sub-unit WJSN THE BLACK and a former member of the project group Y TEEN.
She is also a member of the project group Cotton Candy under the name El (엘).
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
In 2012, EXY was part of the lineup for VIVA Girls, a seven-member girl group under Medialine. However, due to financial issues, the group never debuted. Other members of the group included SeolA, 9MUSES' Kyungri, Dalshabet's Woohee, Stellar's Hyoeun, Hello Venus' Lime, and Kiss&Cry's Soyumi.[2]
2015: Unpretty Rapstar 2[]
EXY was originally introduced through the competition show Unpretty Rapstar 2. She was eliminated in episode 8.[3]
2015–2016: Debut with WJSN, Y TEEN[]
She was revealed as a member of WJSN on December 24, 2015 as part of the group's Sweet Unit.[4] The group officially debuted on February 25, 2016 with their first mini album Would You Like?.
On August 6, she debuted as a member of the project group Y TEEN with the single "Do Better".
2021: WJSN THE BLACK[]
On May 12, 2021, she debuted as a member of WJSN's second sub-unit, WJSN THE BLACK, with the single album "My Attitude".
2022: Second World[]
On August 8, 2022, EXY was revealed as a contestant on the JTBC all-female competition program Second World, which aims to break the prejudice that idol rappers lack singing abilities.[5] The show's first episode is set to premiere on August 30.
