S.Coups (에스쿱스) is a South Korean rapper-songwriter under Pledis Entertainment. He is the leader of the boy group SEVENTEEN and its hip-hop team.

Personal life[]

Health[]

On November 18, 2019, Pledis Entertainment released a statement stating that he was diagnosed with psychological anxiety after experiencing it. Due to this, he is undergoing careful examination and will be temporarily go on hiatus to focus on the restoration of his health.[1]

On August 17, 2023, Pledis Entertainment announced that S.Coups injured his left knee and a torn anterior cruciate ligament was discovered through MRI scan. He is currently being treated and will undergo surgery. He will therefore be absent from most scheduled activities to focus on his recovery from surgery and rehabilitation.[2] In an updated statement, Pledis announced that S.Coups has been discharged from the hospital after his surgery on August 24. He will be resting for the time being as well as undergoing physical therapy. They added that he may participate in schedule within reasonable limits once he reached stable recovery.[3] On October 19, Pledis announced that S.Coups will be absent from most of the promotions for Seventeenth Heaven to focus on recovery and rehabilitation.[4]

On February 23, 2024, Pledis Entertainment announced that S.Coups' health had recently improved and he would return from his hiatus starting from March onward.[5]

Military service[]

On March 1, 2024, Pledis Entertainment announced that S.Coups was classified as Grade 5 after medical examination due to his knee injury from last August and thus, has been exempted from military service.[6]

  • He was originally set to debut as the sixth member of NU'EST, though he left after he got tired of waiting for the group's debut.[9]
  • He was preparing to be in a 5-member group called Tempest before the group was disbanded to merge into what is now SEVENTEEN.[citation needed]
  • He has been practising Taekwondo for 7 years and has a black belt.[9]
  • He was the one who came up with his stage name. The “S” part of his name can stand for both “Seungcheol” and “SEVENTEEN”, and the “Coups” part of his name is taken from the term “coup d’état“. So, his stage name basically stands for SEVENTEEN having success over their rivals.[9]
